     Lactose prices held steady this week. With a new year and new quarter started, manufacturers
     are actively filling contracted orders. A few processors report getting more spot inquiries
     than usual for this time of year. There is a feeling that some end users may be looking to
     add on coverage early in the year. In addition, others report that a few traders are looking
     to glom onto extra loads of lactose. Some market participants expect the market to firm, and
     having extra stocks of lactose on hand may help offset any price increases. Current
     inventories are comfortable to committed, according to manufacturers. Lactose production is
